Connaught Place has become a churning plate of restaurants. With new restaurants opening up in a flurry, each and every one of them is trying to outdo the other. 38 Barracks is one of the newest ones. Located in the place of the erstwhile Movida Café in M Block, the interiors have been redecorated with snippets from the army life. The restaurant is perfect for lounging out with a gang of friends without burning a hole in your pocket. A range of nibblers are laid out by Chef Owner Gautam Chaudhry. There is a quirky innovation to the Pav Bhaji with seafood which will tickle you with the umami taste. The Soldier’s Mirchi Vada brings back tangy and spicy flavours from the undergrad days which the Skin Platter is a must for all potato lovers. The crispiness of the potato skin with the cheese and some tangy Tomato Relish and Guacamole. We combine this with our first drink of the day, Regiment Spring Cocktail which combines the freshness of cucumber and basil along with enough fizz to make for a sprightly cocktail this summer season. But one of the dishes that holds fort is the Spanakopita. Light flavours of spinach and feta in a fluffy phyllo wrap. The Clash of Clans is a must for all non vegetarian Nerds. Combining the Indian Ajwani Mahi Tikka with the English Classic Fish N Chips, the platter works perfectly with the Whisky Sour.
The Mains include a Norwegian Salmon perfectly crusted on top with the citrusy sauce to boost. There are a host of platters which is a meal for 2 known as Millitary Ammo Box covering both Oriental and Indian sections. Try out the Baked Rasgulla Pie for a sweet ending.
