Indian wines are slowly but steadily coming of age as India’s very own vineyards in Maharastra are producing some award-winning wines over the past few years. We, as one of the best wine bloggers in India have been able to experience this revolution. So, we decided to take a trip to the Fratelli Vineyards and absolutely fell in love with some of the Fratelli wines.
1. Fratelli MS Red 2016
This wine is part of the MS Series which is a collaboration series by chief winemaker Piero Masi and Decanter Magazine’s consulting editor Steven Spurrier. This combination has Sangiovese(60%), Cabernet Franc(20%) and Shiraz(20%). I am a big fan of dark complex reds so this recipe goes right up the alley. This combination imparts the wine a plum colour which gives it some shades of violet when held up against the sunlight. Not only there is some spiciness and freshness emanating from the glass but it is an explosive flavour of red fruits that really impresses me.
Price in Delhi: INR 700
2. SETTE
The SETTE comprises of the best grapes that are produced in the vineyard in a particular vintage. The top 1% of the grapes each year are crushed followed by an expert blend which is created by winemaker Piero Masi. It is usually made up of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese in differing proportions every season. The combination varies from 60% Cab Sauv in 2008 to more of the Sangiovese in 2012. Not only do I get the red fruits and spiciness but also a lovely roll on the palate.
Price in Delhi: INR 1800
3. VITAE Chardonnay
With two red wines already on the list, my third is a white. The VITAE Chardonnay is made from handpicked grapes which are given special attention to their growth cycle along with early morning picking. The wine is a Burgundy style one which is fermented in French Oak Barrels allowing it to retain most of its aroma. It has some strong notes of vanilla along with the buttery texture due to the oak barrels.
Price in Delhi: INR 1500
You definitely need to try out these three Fratelli wines. Let us know what you think about their wines in the comments below.
