Nestled bang right in the middle of Lutyen’s Delhi, the spa at the Shangri-La’s Eros Hotel provides you an oasis of calm as your run away from the hectic life of the city. Spread across a single floor, this tranquil spa de-stresses you thoroughly, allowing you to jump back into the daily grind. There are total of five therapy rooms with one earmarked for the Ayurvedic rituals and another one for couple therapies. The dim lighting, the slow rustling of the water and the soft music start your rejuvenation process right from the moment you step into the spa.

The Spa at Shangri-La

Book yourself in for one of their most invigorating massage therapies, The Shangri-La Journey(INR 6000++). A common changing area houses the steam and sauna but it’s the outdoor Jacuzzi near the pool that will make your relaxation even more luxurious. My therapist guides me through the therapy room. Wooden furniture further made serene with the flowing water in the room which is a rarity indeed.

The Shangri-La journey starts off with a papaya scrub to deepen the effects of my massage therapy. It strips away all the dead cells and it’s cold texture is a boon in these summer months. The scrub is replaced by Salt and Oil scrub for winters which acts as warming agent. The next part of the journey is back on the massage table which is preceded by a shower. The Swedish massage opens with a traditional foot ritual, an ancient tradition symbolizing a purifying of the soul to open the positive energy channel.

This is followed by a 60 minute session of massage to loosen tightened up muscles and eke out sore nerves. Swedish massage is a light to moderate pressure massage consisting of long and circular gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Choose your essential oils from a selection of Olive, Rose, Jasmine and Sandalwood. Long strokes are used to spread out the contracted muscles but where the spa at Shangri-La stands out is the attention given to the chest and abdomen. Too many times therapists linger on the back and the limbs but even a good massage of the abdomen also relaxes a lot. Finish off the treatment with few minutes in the steam room to sweat out your toxins and a shower or to feel all prim and content.
