I recently attended the Obeetee carpet’s second edition “Proud to be Indian” launch event and I got introduced to Abraham & Thakore latest design series. In their new collection, they showcased bold, contemporary color palette with edgy artistry. The designers even made use of vintage saris from Kanchipuram, block prints from Sanager and the timeless tie & dye from the Kutch. I was surprised to see handwritten letters, faded ink and calligraphic stroke incorporated in the various carpets designs.

Me with designers Abraham & Thakore

During the press conference, I learnt more about Obeetee rugs. Obeetee employs some of the finest weavers to task and it takes more than a year to weave one carpet. The carpets are all hand knotted using different yarns and finishes. A lot of thought goes into details, the finest silk is procured and rugs are woven with a knot density of about 200 knots per square inch. Each design represents the modern & progressive India using a chic color palette.

What really excited me was the QR code embedded in the tapestry of the carpet. One could easily scan the carpet and read about the carpet’s weaver. The exclusivity of each carpet gives it a recherché charm and timeless elegance. They currently have 15,000 independent artists who are engaged in weaving and processing rugs in India. The Rashtrapati Bhavan homes two majestic Obeetee rugs, measuring 452 square meters and containing billions of intricate knots.

Selecting the right design

I got really impressed after hearing about the Obeetee initiative and effort each weavers put in weaving one carpet. The beautiful part was the exclusiveness of each carpet. After discussing my existing room design with one of the sale executives,I decided to buy one rug for my room. I wanted a rug design which blended with my room interiors. I personally like neutral colors and nothing which is too bright. I like colors which are pleasing to eyes and nothing which distracts my rooms soothing neutral color story.

My room is in different colors of cream and beige. After understanding my brief, the executive recommended me a modern art rug. The design was abstract and looked really beautiful. I got the rug delivered to my place within a weeks time. The whole process of unpacking the rug was such a beautiful experience. The way it was packaged, made the unwrapping of rug really fun.

Me with my lil pooch at the newest addition in my room

The rug went beautifully well with the interiors of my room and I have placed it with my dull gold bed. It has become the new chilling zone for me and my lil pooch. To my happy surprise, the Obeetee rugs are Woolmark graded. I am absolutely in love with this newly added piece of art in my room!!
