South Indian food is a very clichéd cuisine in our country. Say south Indian to any person and visions of Idlis and Dosas start floating. They do not realize that both of them come in the Udupi cuisine which is just a part of the South Indian cuisine. Although easier to make and thus the more popular, it also has some lesser known cousins. So as to satisfy our South Indian cravings, we turned to our best friend, Foodpanda.

With a user friendly app, it locates our destination pretty fast. Just write down your city along with your locality and Foodpanda shows you the surrounding restaurants. We zero in on Idly Express for today. We make our selections from the menu. You can make your payment through the multiple portals associated with it. A first order ensured that we got an added discount. The food was promised in 1 hour and we waited.

Surprisingly, as the clock meandered towards the 50 minutes mark, the doorbell rang. Lo and behold, against all the accusations of food being delivered late, here we were really impressed with the speed of Foodpanda’s services. One of the most essential requirements of South Indian food is that it be devoured piping hot and thanks to the services of FoodPanda, it truly was. The food comes packed in several small containers which retain the heat within.

The accompaniments surprise you to no extent. The coconut chutney feels freshly made with the milk still oozing from the chutney. The coriander chutney on the other hand infuses the freshness of the coriander. The tomato onion chutney complements them by bringing back a bit of heat to the table. But it’s their sambhar that impresses a lot. It’s sweetness leaves quite a satiated feeling on your palate.

The Idli is soft, fluffy and well fermented whereas the Vada is crispy outside and delectably soft inside. But the star of the day was their dosas. The Benne Khali is two pieces of extra thick and fluffy rice batter dosa with a buttery texture. Combine that with the sweetish thick textured chutneys and your mornings will get a whole lot better. The Ragi Dosa is something for the purists. The slightly sweet taste makes for a good combination with the spiced onion tomato chutney.

Well, Foodpanda’s stellar services ensured us flavours of deep, spicy South Indian food this Navratra season.
