Week 30: July 22-28 ’19

This week, we ate out at three places including Asian food at Chi Ni at The Roseate, a NH-24 Dhaba festival at Holiday Inn Mayur Vihar and finally a Peshawari Food Festival at Crowne Plaza Rohini. So, read on and let us know which one of these cuisines would you like to try out?

July 22, Monday: En Route China Festival at Chi Ni, The Roseate

We were on a period of convalescence after coming back from our twin trips to Dubai and Sri Lanka as it was already a lot of food to consume on these days. The Chi Ni is a Chinese restaurant at The Roseate and has been serving some scrumptious Cantonese and Sichuan food for about 3 years now. The En Route China Festival takes you along the whole gamut of cuisines from the Eastern border of India to China showcasing Burmese, Malay and Indonesian food along the way.

You will be able to enjoy a 4-course meal prepared by Chef Lau Ah Ban and Chef Neeru Dhamala priced INR 2450++ which will consist of Vegetable Dumplings, Balinese Fish, the quintessential Indonesian Nasi Goreng and a Burmese Khao Suey that is quite delicious. For Desserts, we dig into a Chinese five-spice Cheese Cake and a Coconut Tapioca Pudding.

July 24, Wednesday: NH-24 Dhaba Festival at Holiday Inn, Mayur Vihar

Although I have been a big fan of Dhaba styled food, since the time I have started my blog, I haven’t had the chance to try out the Dhaba food, all thanks to the massive number of places that we head out to on a weekly basis. So, when an opportunity presented itself to try out the food as part of a promotion, I wasn’t going to refuse and headed over to the Cafe on 3 at Holiday Inn, Mayur Vihar for a taste of the lovely food.

Cafe on 3 at the Holiday Inn, Mayur Vihar is an all-day dining workhorse of the hotel that has always supported some really good Indian food promotions including a recently concluded Bihar Food Festival. I quite fell in love with the set up that had been organized for the festival as stalls for the Paranthas and Chat along with Chulhas for the main dishes as it imparts the typical smoky flavor that makes the Dhaba food so tasty and recognizable.

We started with a delectable platter of appetizers including the Tandoori Tangri Kebab and Bhatti da Murg along with a Paneer Parantha from the Parantha section before finally heading off to the mains for some Paneer Teekha, Balti Meat and a Gosht Korma. We finally ended our meal with some crispy Jalebis layered on with some Rabri. The festival was priced at INR 1900++ per person.

July 25, Thursday: Peshawari Food at Crowne Plaza Rohini

There are two reasons I headed to Rohini one muggy, cloudy afternoon: Firstly, once I have never been to this part of Delhi and especially the Hotel and secondly, the food that being promoted was from our neighbours. Peshawari food has quite a few similarities to our own Punjabi food but there is quite a dominance of non-vegetarian dishes so much so that it is quite hard to actually have vegetarian dishes on the menu.

The second difference is that our Neighbours love buying their breads and rotis from the market instead of making them at home. The festival took at Spice Art, which is their Indian speciality restaurant from 19-28th July and was priced at INR 1549++ for the Vegetarian Buffet and INR 1799++ for the Non-Vegetarian one.

What impressed me about this festival was the use of explosive, tangy, spicy flavours on display. We started off with a flat Chapli Kebab that I enjoyed combining with a Papaya relish and a decadent Mahi Tikka Saloni. But what really surprised me were the Lahori Aloo that were an explosion of flavours upon the palate. For the mains, we decided to dig into the specialities, the tangy sour Peshawari Choley and Namkeen Mutton Karahi served along with a variety of breads. We ended our decadence with a Gulaab Jamun and Sewai ki Kheer.
