Going back to the History as Chef Anahita Dhondhy explains “The Patra Ni macchi is a traditional parsi dish that is cooked on the New year day, other than that there is Pulav,Dal, Maghi na Farcha and Ravo and sev. The first occassion is the New Year according to the Iranian calendar is on the 21st of March (one of the oldest festivals celebrated around the world, ushering Spring) and the second in the latter part of the year (usually August) where the Parsis celebrate their arrival in India and the acceptance of their new homeland. The meal has to end with a flourish….. Ravo (sweet semolina pudding) Sev (browned sweetened vermicelli) , Falooda and ice cream, (Rose Milk with vermicelli and ice-cream), Dar ni Pori (sweetened lentils stuffed in a light pastry) and Khajoor ni ghari (sweetened dates stuffed in a light pastry).

Food Talks

The Navroz festival comprised of two elaborative platters with variety of vegetarian and non vegetarian food. Starting with their vegetarian platter Doodhi no Murabbo is a bottlegourd preserved with dried fruits accompanied with Saria which is crispy rice papad. Masala ni daar is a classic parsi preparation of lentils and vegetables and is rich in spices and the flavor of the dish tingles on your taste buds. Papeta no kebab are fried and delectable fried kebabs made of tangy vegetables and potatoes. The winner of the night according to me was Kachumbar which is a tasty salad of onion, tomatoes and cucumber.

The non vegetarian platter also had dishes like saria, kachumbar, doodhi no murabbo and brinjal pickle which were a part of the vegetarian platter as well. The star dishes according to us in the non vegetarian platter were chutney eeda na pattice which is bascially a potato pattice stuffed with a spicy green chutney and eggs. The badami chicken was rich in appearance, aroma and flavor. The chicken cooked in almond, cashew and coconut milk gravy made the dish looks like heaven. The mutton palao had a real bright appearance due the spices and ingredients there was a complete balance of flavor maintained in it after using an array of spices in it.Navroz Platter at SodaBottleOpenerWala (1) 11094357_881171578641549_6976591047317425378_n
