Butter chicken or murgh makhani is a staple for non-vegetarians in India. The dish’s flavour finds roots in Punjabi cuisine and is believed to have been invented at Moti Mahal Restaurant, Daryaganj, Delhi.

Butter chicken is typically served with chicken on the bone, in India, and served boneless at most other places. Chicken is marinated overnight in a yogurt and spice mixture which usually includes garam masala garlic paste, ginger, lemon or lime, pepper, coriander, cumin, turmeric and chili, and garnished using butter, cream, green chillies, coriander, and Kasuri Methi.
