There are very few good bars in Delhi. By Bar, I mean a place which not only offers booze by the gallons, but also serves up some good grub along with. The kind of grub that you can go in the morning, for curing those splitting headaches. AMPM Cafe in Rajouri Garden is one of those places.
Serving up some really cheap booze, some delectable food, herbal hookahs and a different genre of music every day of the week, they take the competition in this bustling west Delhi market. Located on the top of the effervescent California Boulevard, this 50 seater place with an outdoor terrace rarely seems empty with a line forming outside rapidly by early evening.
An ongoing Jack Daniel’s festival ensures we get some of the best drinks from the bartender. There’s an Old Fashioned with a slight twist to the original. The Angoustra Bitters take over in this heady conviction while the Jack with Ginger is a mellow calming drink. They also have Bira on tap for the lovers of the desi brew.
The food simply rocks you back with some international flavours combining wonderfully with some Indian ones to create a melody on your palate. We start off with the Chicken Pots. Spicy Thai chicken in a crispy wonton.
The Crispy Corn is next giving a superb texture on the palate. The Jerk Nachos explode with flavour of sour cream and salsa along with the cheese.
You will fall in love with the simple earthy Tomato Bruschettas. There’s a Mumbai Classic, Keema Pav present too. The omnipresent earthy, spicy taste of mutton with the buttered crispy bread.
But one of their most unique dishes is Drunken Soya Chap. Combine the earthy flavours with the searing heat of tequila. It’s a stylish alternative to your boring old tequila shots.
The Chilli Chicken Baguette is a Chinjabi French crossover. The Tropical Veg Burger has an immense story going on. A crispy spicy veggie patty with loads of cheese and a fresh fresh bun.
We end the meal with a sinful Red Velvet, Tiramisu and Chocolate Mousse.
AMPM impresses with some good food, a mind blowing ambiance and some boozy cocktails.
