I went to Kuala Lampur for 2 days and these are the places that I tried (after different people’s recommendations) and now I swear by!!!

1. Chinatown

one of the street food vendors

This place is almost like Chandani Chowk+Sadar Bazaar of Delhi. If cheap shopping is your agenda, be prepared to meet all the Chinese vendors of bags, clothes, belts etc at dirt cheap prices. This is a jackpot area for fakes. You can easily get fake LV’s, Gucci’s, pradas etc here (:p).
If food is your agenda (well I am not a shopping type of girl; I went for FOOD-FOOD-FOOD); then this place is a must visit from 5-10 PM. Street vendors of China, lay out their counters and you can easily try out their local dishes.

Note- for shopping, go in the morning hours, in the evening its really crowded. Haggle is the real key, a group of friends managed to get bags+footwear at half the price than the quoted price. So go on and proudly haggle!!! (:p)
For food, food is cooked in fish oil and seafood smell is quiet strong; vegetarians, carry a scarf/handkerchief for your nose, as it might eek you out a little!

2. Paramount Club

Quiet honestly, clubbing scene in Kuala Lampur is really sad. It can’t be compared to what we already have in Delhi, so partying should not be your agenda here. If IT IS, then you should visit the bar street i.e. Bukit Bintang. You can easily hop in and hop out from bars which are all in one lane.

Paramount Club entrance

But if you are actually looking for a little “hatke” clubbing scene, paramount is the place. Quiet honestly when I entered the place, it looked really shady. They made our group mandatorily buy 15 pints of beer (and most of us weren’t beer drinkers). This is their entry policy, either buy beer or a bottle of whiskey.

When we entered inside, there was a ramp, where performances were happening. A lot of time songs were sung in their local dialect, so it became quiet annoying. They were handing out sashes after each performance to the performers. It looked like some “B” grade Hindi movie in action. To top it all, there was this girl on our table who forces us to “chug” our own drinks and is also simultaneously drinking our beers. And we were like “What the hell!”.

But after sometime we started enjoying the vibe of the place (could be due to all the chugging). The girl also turned out to be fun and she danced with everyone. This was one of the most memorable nights of the whole trip and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the club, only for a “hatke” type of night.

3. Massage parlors/spa

Me getting my reflexology done!

If in Kuala Lampur, you HAVE TO-HAVE TO get a massage done. Trust me, you’ll get one of the best massages of your lifetime here. You’ll find a massage salon in every nook & corner. KL is known for its reflexology massage and I went for half an hour on my feet. The massage really relaxed the whole body and they touched points on my feet which I never knew even existed (:p). This was a dry massage and no oil is used.

My friends went to Ozmosis, for an oil massage. One of my friends had slip disk in his back and he was already getting needling done from Delhi. He frequently gets massages done in Delhi (due to his back pain) but he has never ever got such a massage done in his lifetime. The strokes & techniques used, were unseen/unfelt by him. He told me the doctor was quiet knowledgeable. He was able to detect the exact problem areas and gave him proper guidance on the future treatment.

4. Limestone Caves i.e. Batu Caves

In my short trip of 2 days, I could not visit this place but friends who did visit it, could not stop raving about it. At a drive of 1 hour, these caves are breathtakingly beautiful and an experience to remember. A must visit for everyone with their families!

5. Heli Lounge Bar

Another experiential type of clubbing space. This club is made on top of a helipad. You can see the entire view of Kuala Lampur from here. Sitting with a glass of wine, city view in the background, this place is perfect for pre-game! The helipad terrace shuts down by 12:30 and the lounge below by 1:30, so plan your evening accordingly. You can easily pre-drink here and then head to the bar street (if partying the whole night is your agenda!)

I have written a blog on few tip/advices for first time travelers to Kuala Lumpur. You can view it here. If you have any recommendations, feel free to share in the comment section! 🙂
